Maximize the life and performance of your retailtopexclusi candles with these expert care guidelines
The first burn is the most important. When you light your candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the entire top surface has melted into a pool of liquid wax that reaches the edges of the container. This typically takes 2-3 hours.
This initial burn sets the memory of your candle. If you extinguish it before the wax pool reaches the edges, the candle will tunnel on subsequent burns, wasting wax and reducing burn time.
Before each burn, trim the wick to approximately 5mm in length. This simple step prevents excessive smoke, soot buildup, and ensures a steady, controlled flame. Use wick trimmers or scissors for best results.
If you notice the flame becoming too large or flickering excessively, extinguish the candle, let it cool, trim the wick, and relight. A properly trimmed wick creates an even burn and extends candle life.
Follow these guidelines to ensure safe and efficient burning
Burn your candle for 2-4 hours at a time. Avoid burning for more than 4 hours continuously to prevent overheating
Keep candles away from drafts, vents, and fans to ensure an even burn and prevent rapid, uneven burning
Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting, typically 2 hours, to prevent overheating the container
Your safety is our priority. Always follow these essential safety guidelines
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from flammable materials, curtains, and bedding. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Ensure the candle is on a level surface and in a well-ventilated room. Never move a candle while it is burning or while the wax is still liquid.
Use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame. Avoid using the lid to extinguish as this can cause smoke to become trapped. Never use water to extinguish a candle.
After extinguishing, ensure the wick is upright and centered. If the wick has moved, carefully reposition it while the wax is still soft using a wick dipper or similar tool.
Proper storage extends the life and quality of your candles
Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Excessive heat can cause candles to soften, warp, or fade in color. Room temperature between 15-25°C is ideal.
Keep candles covered when not in use to prevent dust accumulation and protect the fragrance. The original lid or a dust cover works perfectly for this purpose.
Remove dust and debris from the wax surface with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, use a slightly damp cloth but ensure the candle is completely dry before lighting.
Clean the container exterior with a damp cloth. Avoid getting water on the wax or wick. If wax spills on the outside, let it harden and gently scrape it off.
Quick fixes for common candle concerns
If tunneling occurs, burn the candle for longer periods to allow the entire surface to melt, or carefully remove excess wax from the edges
Excessive smoke indicates the wick is too long. Extinguish, trim the wick to 5mm, and relight for a cleaner burn
These are cosmetic only and do not affect performance. They occur naturally with soy wax and are a sign of pure, natural ingredients
Get the most from your candle's scent
For optimal fragrance distribution, burn your candle in appropriately sized rooms. Our 250g candles work best in rooms up to 20 square meters. Smaller rooms will have a stronger scent throw.
Close doors and windows during the first 30 minutes of burning to allow the fragrance to build. Once established, you can adjust ventilation to your preference.
The fragrance will be strongest during the burn and for about an hour after extinguishing. Cold throw, the scent when unlit, will be subtler but still present.
